It’s apparently due to some kind of over pressure in the camshaft cover. It’s generally due to a head gasket failure. This one in particular, I don’t know as the head gasket was changed 6 months ago due to a warped cylinder head (it was fixed too). I don’t know man, it’s like this car was designed to fail.

...Engine was seized due to water being present below and above the pistons. Valves don’t seem bent or anything, just a shitload of water everywhere. I don’t even

If you zoom in you can see a nice 3/16" hole at the base of the dipstick for water to pour into. It took forever to get the remains of the old dipstick tube out.

Truck came in with intermittent shut off and crank no start. Tracked the issue to loose FICM voltage supply from fuse box. But we were more interested in the 5 propane bottles strapped in the bed.

Anything over 10 psi of boost and it injects straight propane into the intake pre-turbo.....

My crown vic was so rusty that the dipstick tube rusted through, though it wasn’t somewhere that really got wet so I was able to patch it up with some epoxy and aluminum foil jammed in where I didn’t have access to epoxy it. Kept the big dirt out!

The backwards lug nuts: How? (as in both “how did you get them on there” and “how it it not occur to you in the difficult process of putting them on there that maybe they go the other way”)

This one reminded me of something that had happened to my sister a long time ago. Back when department store parking lots had concrete parking blocks for every space. Obviously distracted, she forgets about the concrete block and drives over it, her Olds 88 transmission pan taking a direct hit. Anyway, she limps up the road, less than 1/2 mile to the nearest service station. They take the car in, tell her they are going to replace the pan and it will be a couple hours. She drags the kids up the stree t to a McD’s with a Play Place and kills the time there. When she returns, the car is set to go, she pays the invoice and leaves. Days later she brings the car to me, saying it it leaking. She tells me about the incident and says that they put a new pan on. I jack the car up and have a look. What I see resembles the fine repair above, except they painted the pan Chevy orange on her car. The leak was coming from the shoddy weld.

Anyway, I demand to see the invoice, and they did in fact charge for a new pan. I call the number on the invoice and speak to the service sta tion owner, and tell him he needs to put the new pan on she was charged for, or refund her money. His reply, “Well, maybe next time we don’t fix it”.  My sister wound up contacting the BBB, it took many weeks to get this resolved, but they did put a new pan on.

I’m just as stumped as you over how they managed to get that far with the lug nuts. I almost didn’t include i t here, as t he pic may have been staged just for a shitpost. Unless somebody really did tighten them with an open end wrench...? Eh, c ustomers have done dumber things, I guess.

Wow. Granted, not everyone’s going to bother looking underneath , but still- t hat’s pretty ballsy to scam somebody over one of the easiest things to see under the car. ...And to risk your reputation over it!

My belief is that had it not leaked, they would not had been caught. My sister or her husband would never have gone under the car to see what was or wasn’t done. I was baffled by the Chevy orange painted pan, initially thinking they may have gone to the bone yard and bought a that was damaged and painted to replace her pan. That thought disappeared after about 2 seconds. The place must have had other bed dealings because I see they have a 1.8 star google rating and 1.5 stars on yelp. Nothing has changed would be my assumption.

I mean you could just put them on hand tight like that, and then decide it was good enough when you went to tighten them down and realized you were a moron?

Heh, f irs t wheel change I ever did (on my own car), I assumed the taper was an aes thetic feature... and they were plain open-end lug nuts, so I was still able to use a socket to tighten them without realizing my error . Had they been external thread like the ones seen here, I’d surely have learned my lesson sooner.

They’re still in business, huh? Guess I shouldn’t be surprised; there’s a shop in my area that has a reputation for using compression fittings on brake lines...

That’s scary. Dangerous scary.

I believe the only reason this place is still around is it’s location, an intersection of two very busy state highways, the majority of their income is likely from gasoline sales. And yes, maybe the occasional repair scam too.

This one is really baffling. How does somebody dumb enough to think this is the way they go, also own an open-end  wrench to put these on?

The F-150 I was given had a compression fitting in the brake lines.  I need to find out what mechanic my friend used, and make sure I never send anybody there.
